Cybis Repair and Restoration

Cybis is recognized as one of the world’s foremost creators of fine porcelain art. His methods rely on traditional Chinese and European techniques. Born in Lithuania in 1895, Boleslaw Cybis immigrated to the United States in 1939 during World War II. Prior to seeking citizenship in the US, Cybis studied in Russia at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and under Constantin Alajalov and Pavel Tchelitchev.

Soon after arriving in the US, Cybis began creating handmade, hand-painted plaster of Paris figurines and art ware, and porcelains. In 1942, he cofounded Cordey China Company. By 1950, he opened his own company, Cybis Porcelains. Cybis died in 1957, but his company is still operational to this day. Now skilled artists handcraft and hand decorate porcelain sculptures ensuring that no two pieces are ever identical.

Most Cybis pieces are marked with a signature and model number, but not all. Unmarked pieces can often be matched with reference material published by the company.
