Royal Bayreuth Repair and Restoration

Known as the oldest privately owned Bavarian china company, Royal Bayreuth opened its doors in 1794. Royal Bayreuth is located in Tettau, which is near what was the East German border. Alexander von Humboldt, an expert German geologist, selected this location after he was appointed by the king to find a factory site. Johann Schmidt and Wilhelm Grenier were awarded a royal permit to operate the factory.

Since the beginning, Royal Bayreuth has made dinnerware, coffee and tea sets and other dining accessories. The most sought after Royal Bayreuth collectibles include figurines, scenic pieces, rose tapestry, and unique novelties like the SunBonnet Babies, Snow Babies and Beach Babies. The Sunbonnet Babies are based on a 1900 children’s schoolbook. In the illustrations, the children’s faces are completely hidden underneath sunbonnets. In the books, the children were done in black and white, but Royal Bayreuth released a full line of children’s dishes completed with colored pictures.

The Royal Bayreuth mark has changed numerous times over the years. From 1870 to 1919, it typically included the words “Royal Bayreuth, and Bavaria”. Over the years, Bavaria was changed to say Germany.

While delicate to the touch, Royal Bayreuth’s durability makes it last for hundreds of years. Dean Schulefand & Associates recognizes how special these pieces are so you can trust them with the repair and restoration of your Royal Bayreuth collectibles.
