R.S. Prussia Repair and Restoration

R.S. Prussia stands for the Reinhold Schegelmilch Porcelain Factory and Decorating Studios. It is also written as R.S.P. at times. In 1869, a disused iron ore refinery in Suhl, Prussia (now located in Germany) was converted into a porcelain manufacturer, and the R.S. Prussia brand was born. A second, new factory was built in 1894 in Tillowitz, which eventually became the company’s primary location. This factory remained operational until 1945, but there was an official name change in 1910 and the factory started marking wares with R.S. Germany onward.

Nearly all R.S. Prussia products were hand painted and often included an abundance of gold. Unlike other porcelain factories in this part of the country, R.S. Prussia primarily produced products including toy tea sets, tete-a-tetes and tableware for export. The first R.S. Prussia goods arrived in the United States around 1880, but only wares made from 1888 to 1910 bear the R.S. Prussia mark. Numerous marks existed over the years, but they all tended to feature the initials “R” and “S”, and the word “Prussia” in red letters, a red star and a wreath with red outlines.
