Wave Crest Glass Repair and Restoration

In 1880, Charles Fabyan Monroe started selling imported glass in Meriden, Connecticut. Soon this evolved into a shop with a decorating studio and a showroom, which he named the C.F. Monroe Company. This company is best known for its Wave Crest, which is elegant and elaborately decorated Victorian opal glass. Wave Crest Glass is recognizable for its pastel colors, flower decorations and thick enamel flourishes.

As the Art Nouveau era ended, so did demand for Wave Crest Glass. By 1916, the C.F. Monroe Company had to close its doors and production ceased. Wave Crest Glass is not marked on the glass, but it sometimes is marked on the metal. Two commonly used marks were an overlapping monogram with a “C”, “F” and “M” with Monroe spelled out or simply “C.F.M.Co” and the item number.
